OBJECTIVE
The objective of this course is to give the active participant a fundamental grounding in Tai Chi principles. The primary mode of the course is slow, directed movements with focus on body alignment and movement quality. The course is suitable for beginners to the art, as well as for those who may have some background in Tai Chi.
WARM-UPS
Each class begins with Qi Gong exercises to warm up the muscles, lubricate the joints, and begin to explore chi, the life energy of which we become more aware as we practice. After these warm-ups, the class turns its focus to a portion of the form.
PACE
Each class meeting typically introduces one or two new postures and reviews the postures taught in previous classes.
HOLDING AND FLOWING
Holding of postures will allow our bodies to learn to find the optimum structure more easily, while toning our muscles and focusing on one or two tai chi principles. Flowing through the postures allows us to connect our energy and discover transition from balance point to balance point.
